Yes, I did run mysql_upgrade, twice. The 2nd time with --force.

I ran into this issue once before. If my memory serves, I had to do a mysqldump, purge mysql and reinstall. No matter how many dumps I have, I always fear something will go wrong with restoring the data. Nonetheless, I guess that's my plan for tomorrow unless there's a better suggestion. Currently, I have 2 replicas running so I feel a little more secure.
