My understanding is, given table t, in this transaction ,,,

start transaction
select * from t for update;
-- do something else
select * from t for update;
commit;

... under Repeatable Read the second select will reflect intervening committed Inserts, Updates and Deletes; under Read Committed no intervening Updates or Deletes will have been allowed; under Serializable no Updates Deletes or Inserts will have been allowed.
