See https://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=83986, we'd have to see the log in order to understand how the query sequence elicited this crash.

If you can identify the query sequence, modifying the app for debugging purposes to log the result of show engine innodb status after each query might help illuminate what's going on.

If MySQL can use all 48GB, you could safely increase the buffer pool to 36GB.
