GIS functions in MySql 5.1.35 are not 3D

My tests suggest that the functions added in the 5.1.35 branch are not 3D. I have tested Distance() and Buffer() but I imagine that the others are the same as they come from the same source.

For example, Buffer() creates an oval around a point and Distance() is only accurate along meridians.

Hopefully I'm wrong (I'm not a rocket scientist), in which case I apologize, but we don't want these functions to be used or absorbed into mainstream MySql until we know that I'm wrong.

Have the functions been put through a peer review ?

Hopefully Alexey "Holyfoot" Botchkov can comment ASAP and hopefully he will have a simple explanation.

Thanks. Mike
