Some of the gis functions in 5.1.23-gis are better than in 5.1.24-rc. For example: if you want to know if a point is in a polygon. The 24rc makes the polygon to a box (mbr) and look if the point is in the box. The 23gis makes it better and use the polygon as a polygon.
