Distance between a point and a linestring

Hello,

I'm starting to use the spatial extension whit mysql 5.0. I have a table with a point attribute, i want to calculate the distance between points and a linestring. I have tried to Distance function, but mysql throw "Error Code : 1305 FUNCTION Distance does not exist".
How can i calculate the distance?, Are there any other function to calculate the distance?.
