Altitude data in GEOMETRY type ?

POINT()s and LINESTRING()s in a GEOMETRY type appear to only have x, y values.
What about altitude ? Or even time ???

Given Altitude it is possible to calculate gradients (I would really like to do this)

Given Time it is possible to calculate the speed at which the GPS unit was travelling when it took the trace.

Currently my only real option is to store the original GPS trace data in an extra field in the DB, but I would like to have it all stored with my point / line data in the GEOMETRY type field.

Is it possible to add this data to a GEOMETRY field and not break the geospatial functions such as Within() and Intersects() that can query the (2D) data ?
