Spatial relationships between geometries

We have a problem with the spatial function Intersects().

We are working with version MySQL 5.0.15 and the interface is developed with Java.

In the interface, the spatial objects which are stocked in the database can be displayed on a map.
The user can select a zone of the map and test which object intersects this zone.

In MySQL, the geometry type that we use is POLYGON and the intersection is tested with the function Intersects().

This functionality doesn't normally work because the functions that test spatial relationships between geometries are not implemented correctly. They currently return the same result as the MBR functions.
The result is totally false on the map.

This functionality is really important in our project.

Does anybody know when these functions may be implemented in MySQL?

Thanks a lot!
