Toasty, Thank you for the link. This was interesting reading. On average it looked like 4.1 was "about" 10 percent (i.e. not 2 percent and not 50 percent) faster than 5 - with individual queries going one way or the other to more extremes.

However we are seeing more extreme differences for a set of 38 queries used to build a statistical summary page. Maybe there is a problem with the Fedora Core 5 in 64-bit mode? We certainly need to find out.

Any other ideas?
