Must Reduce Configured Max Per-thread Buffers

I'm running a server that I've made some adjustments to to dramatically increase buffers/cache/temp sizes.

Somewhere along the line, a setting I made dramatically increased "Configured Max Per-thread Buffers" as reported by tuning-primer.sh

How can I reduce that number? It says I've allocated 16GB per thread when I only have 6GB of memory, and my max mysql memory usage has been about 1 GB. I want to ensure it never goes over about 5GB because I'm running swap-free (SSD install). What numbers make up this number?

Thanks
