Handling large tables

I have been using Mysql for an application running a table as large as 11 Giga, and I expect the size to grow significantly. I am being told by a development company that Mysql could not efficiently handle such large set of datas and that I should migrate to Oracle or MS SQL. But on the other hand so far I have not experienced major difficulties, except if the server crashes or is inadvertently reebooted while a insert query in the table is being done, which succeeded in lengthy rebuilding of the indexes.

Any advice on this matter greatly apreciated.
