Maximun number of databases per server

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is any limit to the number of databases mysql can handle on a single machine ?

I am considering a setup where I will have thousands or even hundereds of thousands of databases (all reasonably small, about 10 MB per db) per server.

I am wondering if and how this could effect mysql performance, perhaps slow startups or other unforseen problems with the filesystem ? I know mysql will slow down if there are too many tables per database, but I have no idea what thousands of databases will do.

Any help or insights would be appriciated !

Michael
