Query profile: sending data

I can't find the definition of "sending data" time duration (show profile). My query spends the most of the time in this state... I could understand it if my query retrieves a lot of data, but my query is a SELECT COUNT(*), so there is no data being sent, is it?

Any idea about what "sending data" means?
