Your SELECT
* Hits 1.8M rows
* Takes 4 seconds
* Apparently did not need to hit the disk
This is quite normal. The CPU (one core, that is) can be expected to be running solid for the 4 seconds. Nothing is broken. Except maybe the alarm, itself.

If you want that query to run faster, you need to build summary tables. But that is another story.
