Rick, thanks for all the great suggestions. In particular, I think pconnect is going to solve this problem for me. I've been running the same test script, modified with pconnect, and have not seen any problems up to 1500 connections.
Also, I'm guessing that you may be right about a melt-down in the web server with the possiblity of this many simulaneous connections. So now I'm off to try and figure out how to best test that. Thanks again.
