Thank you for your reply. For some reason my reply went into the la-la land for moderation and never came back...

I tried your modified query - and the numbers are the same (ugly)...

I checked the slow query log, and the number of rows examined is what one would expect - the number of records in the <ID list table> x approx. 7... So, for 3500 rows in the ID table, we get about 23000 records examined.

It shows 0 for lock time, and there is nothing else unusual... I even went on to replace a join on the infamous GUID to using integer IDs instead... After all, 4 bytes is better - fits more into index pages.

As for the disk subsystem, this machine has 6 x 500GB 7.2K RPM SATA 3.5" disks hooked up to a PERC 6/I with 256MB Cache. We are using RAID-10.

Any other ideas?
