Hi,
the server has plenty of RAM, and performance does increase with your suggestions, but it is still very far from a postgres-based solution that uses the specialized ip4r type for ranges (which I was hoping to migrate to MySQL for various reasons).
I guess this type of thing is not mysql's strong side...
