Are you sure it's not this bug: http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=60025? That bug is the only issue I know of regarding stored procedure slowdown in 5.5. It is fixed in 5.5.13 which will be released soon.

If you're in a real pinch and don't want to wait until 5.5.13 is released you can download the source code from launchpad [1] and compile it yourself. At least you'll know for sure if that bug is the cause.

Apart from that, I agree with Rick in that it's difficult to give any more pointers without seeing what the procedures do.
