As I mentioned previously, this server runs no services other than mysqld. This image shows the CPU usage on the server with the red arrows showing when the mysqld process was restarted on the server (server was not reboot).

Queries (type and QPS) were not changed when the process was restarted.

Every time I restart the process, it amazes me how fast MySQL *can* be. :)

It doesn't appear to be related to time, but related to the total queries (maybe connections) made to mysqld since it was started. Almost like it's doing something weird like counting from 1 to the total queries made since it was started. It just gets slower and slower and slower the more queries you do.
