Hi,

The first thing we are implementing is the ANSI SQL language called SQL/PSM. The reason for this is because as noted, it is part of the ANSI SQL standard. This is what exists currently in 5.0. You can download and use this if you want.

In the long run we do plan on adding a standard API that would allow you to create stored procedures in a variety of languages (PHP, Perl, Java, etc...) When that will be added is currently undecided as of yet though. The earliest would be in MySQL 5.1, but it might be later.
