MyIsam. I tried Innodb, but there was a bug in it that kept me from using it.
Multiple inserts is unfortunately problematic. I have a few normalized tables, and I need to do a fetch on LAST_INSERT_ID() to get the normalization key.
What's got me perplexed is that it doesn't seem like there's much sweat on any part of the system - no i/o wait to speak of on the mysql server, no cpu load on either client or server. I don't know if there are any other stats I can look at to try and figure out why it takes so long.
