Hey Congrats Jay!

My new job keeps me away from the forums :( and my home computer is dying - new one on the way so I'll return).

Interesting thoughts.

and these posts also address something I just encountered. My engineer has 3 tables that all have the same fieldnames (one of them is mime_type which I'm worried may turn into a reserved word). And I'm thinking your approach to a column which defines the data is better than 3 separate tables. Basically the tables hold a filename, file size, mime type and one other bit of data. The table name is descriptive of the TYPE of files. enum may be better here and you've given me something to think about.

Not very far in your book -- I'm using it more as a reference at this point ...

thanks for all your thoughts....
