What have you done to isolate the problem? Have you set long_query_time and enabled slow query logging in my.cnf? If so, what does EXPLAIN say about the queries that are running slowly? Upgrading won't necessarily cause a performance drop; you'll need to give us some information about your particular situation/queries.
