Hi,
Group By & Distinct both are expensive because for data sort they must have to perform on disk.
Using of Distinct & group by depends on your situation.
Distinct will bring unique records for those columns which are part of SELECT Query.
Group By we are using mostly in case of when we are doing aggregate or finding duplicates.
