Very first ideas are often not so good as later ideas. A feature of the method is to remove any need to subtract token units.

SQL is not well designed for managing time data. If you're working more than occasionally with time, as you are, it's advisable to read about sql and time, the classic source is https://www2.cs.arizona.edu/~rts/tdbbook.pdf
