Speeding up large searches

Currently, I'm saving data for hundreds of sensors every second. When I pull in this data later it can take some time.

Instead of getting all of the data, is it possible to execute a query that simply grabs every 10th record? And would that even speed things up?

Or are there any other recommendations for speedier queries?

I have my tables properly indexed, and that helped a ton, but I'm looking for some other ways of speeding up the searches too.
