We have a similar issue. Just using sysbench with oltp_read_write.lua can easily reproduce MySQL 8.0's slowness. I also noticed that the more tables 8.0 has, the worse the performance degradation.

https://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=108430 and https://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=90209 are related bugs. But, there are no solutions or workarounds.
