Hi,
You need mysql-max for everything involved in the cluster. If you are using mysql-server (which I am fairly certain will not be -max, it will not connect to the cluster) If you already have -max installed on that host (which it looks like you do for the mgm node?) can you just run mysqld_safe on that to see if it connects.

Failing that, please provide more information, such as mgmd log output? mysqld.err output when it starts etc?
