regd Multithreading of mysqld

Hello,
I have set the parameter for "number of threads" of mysqld in my.cnf as 10. When i start mysql as an independent server i see 10 threads in the processes list. but when i start it as a part of the cluster, i see only one thread running.
does this mean that mysqld in a cluster is not multi-threaded ?
It would be much helpful for me if i get this cleared. Thanks in advance.
