Chris,

The number of nide groups is determined by the number of storage nodes and the value set for NoOfReplicas.

2 storage nodes / 2 replicas -> 1 node per replica
1 * 2 replicas -> 2 node groups of one node each.

So in this situation, each storage node functions as a node group, and both storage nodes store exactly the same data.

The discrepancy you appear to be observing may be due to errors in measurement. (For example, top isnĀ“t very precise.) How are you obtaining your memory figures?
