Sure, it would be secure -- if it worked at all.

Cluster is dependent on dedicated high-speed connectivity for proper functioning. 100 Mbps is really the lower end, and for serious deployments, we recommend gigabit Ethernet or better. You're not likely to get that with an SSL-encrypted connection over the Internet.

I'm thinking that regular (non-NDB) replication is probably going to be more suitable to the scenario you seem to be suggesting,
