Dealing with a Mysql server (not node) failure

Cluster Newbie question:

I understand how, if a node fails, the other nodes take up the slack, but, if a server fails, how does the client get switched over to another server?

I've read the two whitepapers, but they seem to focus on node failure.

What am I missing.
