Sorry to self-reply, but more information has come to light.
I've been able to repeatedy crash the cluster (4.1.15) if I insert a BLOB-having row from one API node and then delete it from another during a NDB backup. Every time I do this, at least one NDB node dies.
This happens on both my production and test clusters. Does anyone get the same behavior? I don't have any more hardware to play with - and all our equipment is the same, so it would be good to have some more sample data from different environments.
