Compatibility MySQL 4.1 vs. 5.0

Hello,
We have a MySQL cluster 4.1.14 and must support an application which comes with a mysqld 5.0.x.
Can the 5.0.x mysqld interact with the cluster 4.1.14 ?
I assume it's not possible because different storage engines, right ?
