Communciating with multiple SQL nodes

Apologies if these questions have been asked in the past..

I am considering moving over to MySQL from MS SQL 2000. There are a few questions that I need to have answered before I can make an informed decision.

I would like to set up a MySQL cluster with no single point of failure (in regular operation - i.e. i don't mind about only having 1 management node). This means having multiple storage engine nodes, as well as multiple SQL nodes. My questions are:

1) Can I have a storage node and a SQL node on the same phsyical machine? Is this a recommended way of operating? Is the only issue memory?

2) I am assuming that with multiple SQL nodes, there are multiple TCP/IP entry points into the cluster - does MySQL cluster offer a way to present out the cluster as a single (virtual) IP address, so that for all intents an purposes the MySQL cluster appears to the outside world as a single MySQL database? I have had a look at emic networks m/cluster which seems to offer this exact functionality, but if this functionality is available from MySQL cluster natively, then I'd rather go with that.

Any help/advise would be most appreciated,
Many thanks,
Rob
