Hi,

i dont want to highjack this thread but i have a simmilar problem. Of course i know what this error means and what it causes but the strange thing for me is that if i look table rows and try to insert data with the same keys i get an INSTANT error :

mysql> START TRANSACTION;
mysql> SELECT * FROM foo WHERE bar=1 FOR UPDATE;

wihout committing the transaction i fireup a new console :

mysql> START TRANSACTION;
mysql> REPLACE foo (bar) VALUES (1);
ERROR 1205 (HY000): Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction

My lock_wait_timeout is set to '31536000'. Why is this happening ?
