Two final questions on the topic if you don't mind.

1) Can I conclude that:
a. size of in-memory columns DB is limited by virtual memory size
b. but size of on-disk columns DB is limited by allocated disk space?
2) When you say that on-disk columns cannot have indexes, do you mean they cannot have just secondary indexes? Or do you mean they cannot have ANY indexes including primary? If the latter is true, how can they be used (besides just appending them into a Black Hole)
