Import CSV data into NDB cluster

Hi,
I am trying to upload around 42 GB of data from a plain CSV into a new NDB cluster setup. Due to limitations of our setup I cannot move the file directly to the management or API node servers. I therefore tried to do the import from my PC.
My original approach was:
* to connect to the API node remotely form my local client
* to execute a LOAD DATA INFILE statement
* This failed with the error: [42000][1148] The used command is not allowed with this MySQL version
Next I tried using the ndb_import command as follows:
* I got the proper glibc ndb_import version form the precompiled executables
* ndb_import billing_nds_demo transactions.csv −−fields−optionally−enclosed−by='"' -c "host=dbmgm1" −−fields−terminated−by="," −−fields−escaped−by='\\' −v --log-level=2
This failed with the following error:
0.000: impl 197 do_connect
0.000: impl 227 connection 0 of 1
0.456: impl 236 connection 0 api nodeid 54
30.531: util 3052 E error[con-0] (source:244)
ndb_import: connect to NDB failed: error[con-0] (source:244)
30.531: impl 269 do_disconnect
30.531: impl 278 delete connection 0 of 1
31.517: impl 286 do_disconnect: done
jobs summary: defined: 5 run: 0 with success: 0 with failure: 0
31.517: impl 32 dtor
31.517: util 41 dtor

I would be grate full for any assistance
