Error 4009 do as you say indicate that sql node (mysqld) lost connection to all data nodes.
When that happens one should look for:
* network problems
* did Ndb cluster data nodes shutdown or restart, check Ndb data node local logs if nothing in the cluster log.
Eror 1296 and 1297 are generic error codes, and one need to check the message for more information and also the associated warnings.
If you can reproduce the errors using mysql client one should always do SHOW WARNINGS after a query that has failed involving Ndb, that typically show more useful information.
