rotating binlogs, compression?

I am using replication with Mysql, and I have two questions:

Q1:
On a heavy loaded web server when I rotate binlogs and delete old ones there is a time when it seems mysql is stopping for a moment and apache processes are hanging waiting for connection with the mysql server. In result in a sudden web server load became very high and it takes time to restore its normal work. Sometimes it couldn’t do it and stucks.
Is there any solution/workaround for this?


Q2:
Replication is doing a lot of traffic. Is there an option for compressing communication between master and slave or are there plans for implementing such feature?
