I've encountered the exact same problem... I'm using 1 master with 3 slaves... one of the slaves is always not up to date... I really have no idea why!! I tried different MySQL versions up to 5.0.16 now and recently I reinstalled the MySQL-Slave machine which is causing the headache... But still no luck :-( Maybe the server is the Problem?! the slave always keeps saying "Waiting for master to send event." ...
Is there anything I can try?!
