MySQL 5.0 Multimaster bidirectional replication setup

I have read what I found about this and there is a number of settings that you
can add in my.cnf (master-host=, master-user= ....) and they are apperantley
also possible to set via cmds.
The text-advice I found have both, but the maunal pages say use either.
What is right ?
If using the cmd way to set it up, must I not have these cmds run again at
every reboot/restart ?
I have two identical SLES10(s390x) with MySQL 5.0, identical setup (cloned)
and I want updates replicated both ways.
