Yes I checked the master, it is fine, and I've never had to repair its tables.
Yes I repaired the tables it complained about on the slave. I was using the mysql admin tool, told it to do a full extract and re-do the indexes (these are check boxes, so I don't know the exact command it used).

As the tables seem to get corrupted easily, I think what I'll have to do is change the slave to MySQL 4.0 and leave it running for a while prior to switchover to see what happens. If it stays fine then it's a replication issue, it is fails then I'm in bigger trouble :-)
