mysql replication problem

When I do a Show slave status, I see the following

Slave_IO_Running: No
Slave_SQL_Running: Yes

Also, in the .err file, I see messages such as

050506 8:53:43 [Note] Slave I/O thread: connected to master '[e-mail]:3306', replication started in log ' dax-bin.000001' at position 79
050506 8:53:43 [ERROR] Error reading packet from server: Could not find first log file name in binary log index file (server_errno=1236)
050506 8:53:43 [ERROR] Got fatal error 1236: 'Could not find first log file name in binary log index file' from master when reading data from binary log
050506 8:53:43 [ERROR] Slave I/O thread exiting, read up to log ' dax-bin.000001', position 79

Any ideas as to what these messages mean ?
