The FLUSH command should lead to a consistent backup. However, if any writes come in to the master during the backup, they will hang (waiting for the FLUSH to finish). You may be able to tolerate that, but a read comes in that conflicts with the hung write, the read will then hang. This could lead to virtually all reads being blocked. Therefor, I suggest you make sure no one can write while you are doing the backup.
