Since no one else is writing, it _should_ be possible to abort (ROLLBACK?) the SELECT that conflicts with a transaction that comes through Replication. I can't be more definite than that.
Semi-sync? A simple web search came up with

That, and related pages, should be the definitive explanation. (I have not done it myself; I see it as a half-solution.)
