Replication stopped - mysqlbinlog --start-position

Hi,

We are having problems with the Replication, we wanted to use the switch for mysqlbinlog --start-position, but it's in the versions above 4.1.14.
But we are concerned if upgrading from 4.0 to 4.1 will not remove the relaylogs or binlogs!?

Originally the problem was,
Replication had some problem and it was stuck somewhere, so We issued RESET command which made it start from 001 binlog to replicate again, but that lead it to the Records duplication issues, and now as we know the problem was started from a certain date, so we want to set the replication position from that date onwards and from the Reference manual, they say it's better to use the Position if we know the certain position to start the replication from.

we would appreciate any solution or steps to start up the Replication again.
Please help!

thanks
