Hi,
compression rate is exactly the same as of gzip, as we use zlib which is the compression code of gzip.
I'd say gzip is, among fast compressors, (one of) the most compact format (bzip2 compresses better but is much slower, so is not really an option for on-the-fly network packet compression at least until faster CPU are used).
