Table copy with passwords

I am trying to copy a table to another MySQL db on the same server, that has a list of usernames and encrypted passwords. I want to maintain these encrypted passwords, but the copy table function that I am using (in phpMyAdmin) does not seem to bring in the correct data as I am not able to login with a username/password combo that I know is correct.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to set somewhere the type of encryption that was used? If so, how do I figure that out from the old table?

MySQL 4.1.13

Any input appreciated.
