Replication is subject to connection issues, it doesn't have transaction/retry capabilities, it depends on continuous connectivity, you may have very many clients, there'd this be many possibilities of error, not to mention the disadvantage of providing surprise price changes in the middle of retail transactions ... so all in all the plan looks fraught.

I'd want to write a custom schedulable update module with transactional controls and client notifications.
